Dani  KARAVAN

Israelien Land art artist

Born in 1931

This sculptor best known for site  specific memorials and monuments which merge into the environment.

He made permanent installations in the form of wall reliefs for Israeli courts and research institutions.

With « Passages », a tribute to Walter Benjamin , Karavan reached a sublime point of a sense of place.  Rather than the work incorporating the landscape, the landscape becomes the catalyst that activates the work.

With his « Axis of the Metropolis » he reconnects  to the history of the major urban routes linking the new city of Cergy-Pontoise to the historic Parisian axis.

In his work, location is very important to Karavan, not just historically, but also «to feel, to listen, to smell, to touch, to walk through» .
